Not all #OEMs are developing electric vehicles from the ground up as Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Thinking about it, Magna International introduced a flexible electric drive unit EDS Mid+ with 170kW (front wheel), and EtelligentDrive 250kW (rear wheel).
It can allow current #passenger #trucks, #SUVs, light #commercialvehicles to easily adapt them to the front and rear axles, and requires minimum assembly platform adaptation, with no need to change OEM suspension and brake systems.
Swamy Kotagiri, Magna International CEO, pitches to his customers: “Here’s the truck you had. We can make it electrified and it does exactly the same without changing your manufacturing footprint. Bringing that value differentiates you from everyone else.”
It is a practical solution to some OEMs. But there is still a question to be answered: how efficiently can #automakers add batteries to the remaining space in these vehicles to reach desired performance and mileage range?
